I have been using VM for years because of the low cost of the prepaid plans, perfect for me, with low call counts and mostly text. I upgraded to the Rumor Touch for the novelty of the touch screen, and for easy access to e mail. For e mail will alert me to new emails on my Yahoo mail. Learning curve was uncomfortable because the manual contains typos and info that is just plain wrong. I had to resort to a download of the Sprint version of the manual to figure out some basic functions. Contrary to manual and onscreen prompts, you cannot set a soft pause in numbers that are dialing automated services, so you have to press the screen button for the dialing to continue. That means no hands free for this kind of call. This is a blatant error in the software. VM customer service recently told a user the phone “does not offer that function,” but the manual and on board menus do. Virgin Mobile phones are marketed to young first time users with indifferent customer service and an apparently complete lack of understanding of the concept of end user testing. But it’s cheap.

This phone has many good qualities. It is much better when you use the 3rd party loophole to get gmail apps, etc.
I love the touch screen and the fact that it allows calibartion.
I hate that the phone is locked down-aka-no access to the phone file system. The “make your phone any size” with the microSD is pretty cool though.
All in all, this is the best phone I’ve ever owned at the least expensive price I’ve ever paid (I got mine through virgin mobile-no contracts plan).
I highly recommend this phone-just research what you are getting in to before you bite-specifically, make sure you have a heads up on how to install apps, customize ringtones, get your own wallpapers on the phone, etc. before buying.
I recommend the following two sites to get these additional heads up:
“Install Non-Virgin Mobile (or Sprint) Java Apps on the LG Rumor Touch”
